JOB OVERVIEW

The Quality Assurance Engineer Associate supports the inspection, documentation, and compliance activities required to meet aerospace quality standards in a CNC manufacturing environment. This hands-on role involves performing inspections, assisting with First Article Inspections (FAIs), maintaining quality records, and supporting production and engineering teams to ensure customer and regulatory requirements are met. The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented, hands-on problem solver who is willing to roll up their sleeves, show initiative, and learn quickly. They should have a strong interest in developing within the field of Quality Assurance Mechanical Engineering and be eager to grow their skills while contributing to the success of the organization.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing Technology, or related field; or equivalent hands-on experience in a manufacturing/inspection environment.
  • 0–2 years of experience in manufacturing, quality assurance, or a related technical field (internship or co-op experience acceptable).
  • Basic knowledge of dimensional inspection methods, GD&T, and precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, height gages, etc.).
  • Exposure to or willingness to learn DCC CMM programming/operation and use of inspection software (e.g., PC-DMIS, Calypso).
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with ERP or quality management software preferred.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to work across production, engineering, and quality functions.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced aerospace manufacturing environment while maintaining accuracy and compliance.
  • U.S. Person status required (due to defense contracts).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
  • 1–2 years of experience in aerospace CNC machining or quality assurance is preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with aerospace standards such as AS9100 and AS9102.
  • Prior experience in aerospace CNC machining or precision manufacturing quality assurance.
  • Hands-on experience programming and operating DCC CMMs with PC-DMIS or Calypso.
  • GD&T certification or equivalent demonstrated proficiency.
  • Experience supporting PPAP, process capability studies, or customer source inspections.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Familiarity with root cause analysis tools such as 8D, 5-Why, or Fishbone Diagrams.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage documentation for multiple projects and customers.
Responsibilities
  • Interpret customer drawings, specifications, and diagrams with guidance to determine applicable quality standards.
  • Conduct in-process inspections, select parts for testing based on sampling plans, and utilize inspection tools to validate compliance.
  • Assist with setup, programming, and operation of DCC CMM equipment to perform First Article Inspections (FAIs) and verify product conformity.
  • Conduct final inspections to ensure product conformity prior to shipment.
  • Prepare and maintain AS9102 FAI documentation, including ballooned drawings, parts lists, CMM reports, and quality records for customer review and approval.
  • Utilize inspection tools, ERP systems, and quality records to validate product compliance and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Record and evaluate inspection/test data, preparing reports and recommending improvements under supervision.
  • Assist with customer source inspections to verify compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
  • Support quality control functions, including gage certification, calibration recall systems, and inspection area compliance.
  • Assist with Material Review Board (MRB) activities by documenting nonconformances, validating tag integrity, and supporting root cause investigations.
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, and suppliers to resolve quality issues, enforce standards, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in internal audits, corrective action reviews, and quality system activities in support of AS9100 compliance.
