Boeing Defense Space and Security (BDS) is seeking motivated and dedicated Aerospace Systems Safety and Airworthiness Engineer (Experienced, Lead, or Senior) to join the Safety and Mission Assurance team in the Puget Sound area either Everett or Tukwila, WA. Our team is currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including, Experienced (Level 3), Lead (Level 4) and Senior (Level 5) Aerospace Systems Safety & Airworthiness Engineers.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

At Boeing, safety is at the core of everything we do. As a Systems Safety Engineer, you will have a unique opportunity to engage with the entire life cycle of our Mobility & Surveillance programs, from conceptual development through design and testing, to production and sustainment of fielded aircraft. This includes working on prominent programs such as the P-8, KC-46, E-7, and VC-25B, as well as initiatives within Space and Launch and Phantom Works, all based in the Puget Sound region.
In this role, you will gain insight into the complexities of the defense industry while obtaining hands-on experience with the aircraft. The Systems Safety team is responsible for the Systems Safety efforts for each of the Mobility & Surveillance products, conducting analysis and oversight for fundamental aircraft functions, and leading design safety activities for the aircraft’s mission systems. Additionally, the team provides guidance and integration with Mission Assurance and other related functions, including Environment, Safety, and Occupational Health teams, focusing on airworthiness, design for Environment, Health and Safety, and the Hazardous Materials Management Program.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • 3+ years of experience in a technical or engineering field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • 5 + years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 10+ years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in Systems Safety and/or Systems Engineering disciplines
  • Experience in aviation safety systems engineering

SUMMARY PAY RANGE:

  • Experienced (Level 3): $104,550 - $141,450
  • Lead (Level 4): $128,350 - $173,650
  • Senior (Level 5): $157,250 - $212,750

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent Required

Responsibilities
  • Lead and Implement Systems Safety analysis activities
  • Identify and mitigate all potential and existing hazards
  • Collaborate with Engineering Design Teams while learning all of the aircraft subsystems and their interactions
  • Ask tough questions, challenge conventional thinking and bring potential hazards to light for our aircraft and crew
  • Assess Engineering documents, data and artifacts, while working with Engineering Teams to determine the safest and most cost effective solutions to actual and potential hazards
  • Gather data from field, factory and engineering, calculating probability and severity of possible outcome and work with Design teams to influence a safer more robust system
  • Collaborate with all levels of Engineering and Program Management and Customers
  • Analyze potential operational safety issues including presenting at safety review board
