Description
AEROX develops and operates air purification systems for industrial applications, with a strong focus on odour control using cold-plasma-based technologies. To better understand and optimize plasma-driven oxidation mechanisms, AEROX performs controlled laboratory experiments on representative odorous compounds. This internship is intended for a Master’s student in Chemical Engineering. The intern will design and carry out systematic Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (GC–MS) experiments to screen the effect of different process conditions on the ability of a cold plasma system to oxidize specific odorous molecules. The work will contribute to both fundamental understanding and practical optimization of AEROX’s odour control technologies. The intern will be part of a multidisciplinary R&D team, working closely with engineers, chemists, and data scientists. * A motivated MSc student in Chemical Engineering * Interest or experience in experimental laboratory work and analytical techniques * Familiarity with Python and programming to support collaboration and data handling * A structured, analytical mindset with attention to experimental reproducibility * Designing experimental matrices for plasma oxidation experiments * Performing GC–MS measurements and interpreting chemical conversion pathways * Systematically varying process conditions and assessing their impact on oxidation performance * Applying basic reactor and transport modeling to distinguish mass transfer and residence-time effects from intrinsic chemical or plasma-driven reaction effects * Collaborating with computer science interns on data processing, analysis, and visualization
Responsibilities
The intern will design and execute GC-MS experiments to analyze the effect of process conditions on cold plasma oxidation of odorous molecules. They will also apply reactor and transport modeling to optimize odour control technologies within a multidisciplinary R&D team.
