Helps build the school’s faith community by a demonstrated willingness to participate in and plan school Masses, religious services, assemblies, and activities. Obtains the Diocese of San Diego Basic Catechist Certificate and completes the necessary requirements to renew the certification every 3 years. Participates in any scheduled religious retreats or conferences. Job Responsibilities Assists in the planning and implementation of a daily program which will meet the needs of the children in attendance; sets up program, project, and activity areas as needed. Collaborates and assists staff in designing and implementing activities and assignments to encourage attendee's intellectual, creative, artistic, and athletic enrichment and abilities; assists students in working on and completing after school program assignments, projects, and activities. Monitors individuals or small groups of students assigned to an after school program; assures student understanding of program rules and procedures; maintains appropriate order and student conduct. Monitors children to ensure their health, safety and physical well-being; performs routine First Aid and CPR; performs first aid in emergency situations according to established procedures; enforces and ensures health and safety rules and procedures are observed Interacts with children in an effort to build self-esteem and form a comfort level with their peers; answers student questions, provides proper examples, emotional support, a friendly attitude, and general guidance. Assists with the development and coordination of a calendar for program activities and events designed to compliment student learning and enrichment. Demonstrates and assists students with art projects. Oversees students in physical activities Assists in maintaining program standards of student behavior needed to achieve effective participation in activities without interfering with the natural, informal atmosphere of the After School Program; assists in resolving student disputes; refers serious discipline problems to program supervisors. Maintains a clean and organized environment for students; demonstrates and involves students in cleaning and organizing the program activities areas before, during, and after use. Performs a variety of low level clerical duties in support of program activities such as preparing, typing, duplicating and filing materials; logs and records information; creates and maintains records and files as assigned; answers telephones and schedule activities as assigned. Operates a variety of after school program supplies and equipment including athletic equipment, arts and crafts equipment, and office equipment as assigned. Acts as a liaison between parents, staff, and school personnel; assists in conferring with parents regarding student performance and behavior as necessary. Professional Responsibilities Demonstrates professional responsibility by upholding, adhering to, and enforcing Diocesan and school policy, administrative procedures, and school rules and regulations, and is supportive of them to the public. Respects the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state and federal laws. Maintains appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance. Demonstrates professional work habits by honoring schedules/deadlines, organizing work, and conducting assigned tasks in an effective and efficient manner. Strives to communicate the positive aspects of our school program to the public in word and deed. Uses effective oral and written expression. Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with other staff members. Attends school-wide functions and special events as required. Handles multiple tasks simultaneously. Keeps the administration informed of areas of need and concern. Maintains professionalism in dress and hygiene. Follows the direction of administration with regards to professional dress. Requirements Religious Qualifications Active, practicing Roman Catholic (preferred) Respects and understands a Catholic school philosophy Professional Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Clear criminal background check (a clear Livescan for the Diocese of San Diego is a condition of employment) Negative TB Test CPR Certified Maintains emotional control under stress. Physical Requirements To successfully meet the needs of the students in his/her care, the After Care Worker must: Spend the majority of the day standing in the classroom. While standing the worker will frequently hold objects they are working with or demonstrating Sit on an occasional basis Walk through the classroom and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks. Walk on both even and uneven surfaces Deal with students while kneeling or squatting, stooping, or bending Reach at, below, or above shoulder height with the dominant upper extremity; may require trunk or neck rotation to look back at the class Assist in moving children's desks and chairs to change the layout of the classroom to influence the learning situation. It is occasionally necessary to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds from the office to classrooms While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to be inside the classroom. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the classroom and preschool environment, as well as maneuver throughout the school facility to attend meetings, trainings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend trainings or workshops.
