We’re looking for a dynamic and proactive Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) or Registered Nurse to work in the After-Hours Clinical Nurse Educator role within a dynamic, collaborative multi-disciplinary team to support staff development and promote excellence in patient care. This is a rewarding opportunity to influence learning and practice at both the individual and service level.

Teaching Extended Skills

Responsibilities

The after-hours Clinical Nurse Educator will be guided by the after-hours Nurse Manager in providing clinical teaching, skill accreditation and professional development support for all nursing and midwifery staff and students within Hornsby Ku-ring-gai hospital. You will ensure staff across the service are equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive.
Key Responsibilities :

Provide TRN Support

  • Provide hands-on support to TRN staff across both rotations.
  • Collaborate with CNEs to address challenges, communicate concerns, and align goals with ward objectives.
  • Deliver specialty-based education and assist TRNs in building core competencies.
  • Facilitate debriefings for reflection and professional growth.
  • Participate in Clinical Skills Days and liaise with ODaC team to monitor TRN progress.

Provide Clinical Support

  • Troubleshoot medical devices (e.g., Veraflow, VAC, PCA) and support staff with new medication implementation (e.g., Isoprenaline, Heparin).
  • Provide guidance and perform extended competencies (e.g., chest drain removal, Portacath access, PIVC insertion).
  • Support the implementation of new policies and technologies (e.g., HiFlow on Surgical wards, SDPR 2026).
  • Monitor adherence to clinical guidelines and collaborate on risk management initiatives.
  • Promote ongoing staff development in clinical practices and protocols.

Teaching Extended Skills

Clinical Emergency Response (After Hours)

  • Respond to Rapid Responses and Code Blues after hours, providing clinical support and assisting with care escalation.
  • Liaise with the After-Hours Nurse Manager to prioritize hospital needs and ensure proper coordination of care.

What we’re looking for:

  • Holds TAFE Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or NSLHD’s Trainer and assessor series via MHL in addition to prior teaching/CNE experience.
  • Desirable, ALS Accreditation, role responsible for After Hours CERS response.
