Job Title: After School Teaching Artist (Elementary School Focused)
Program: MCAC After-School Arts Program
Location: Rotating through MUSD elementary school sites
Schedule: Part-Time, September 2, 2025 – May 29, 2026
Compensation: $25-32 (includes instruction, prep, and outreach)

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Madera County Arts Council (MCAC), in partnership with Madera Unified School District (MUSD), is seeking creative and enthusiastic Teaching Artists to lead fun, hands-on art experiences in elementary after-school programs.
This program introduces children to the joy of making art, builds foundational artistic skills, and encourages curiosity, imagination, and confidence. Teaching Artists will rotate across multiple elementary school sites on a four-week cycle, guiding students through engaging, age-appropriate projects in photography, printmaking, digital art, or painting/drawing.
We welcome artists who are excited to spark creativity in young learners while creating a supportive, encouraging space for exploration.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong communication with school staff, MCAC staff, and students
  • Experience teaching or working with elementary-aged children (after-school, classroom, camp, or community settings)
  • Ability to adapt lessons for different ages, learning styles, and energy levels
  • Confidence in leading group activities in varied settings (classrooms, cafeterias, multipurpose rooms)
  • Creativity, patience, and enthusiasm for working with children from diverse backgrounds
  • Reliable transportation between school sites (driver’s license required)
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
  • Must pass a background check and meet MUSD volunteer requirements
  • Associate’s degree in the arts, education, or related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Background in one or more of the following disciplines: Photography, Printmaking, Digital Art, or Painting/Drawing
Responsibilities
  • Design and deliver playful, age-appropriate art lessons that inspire imagination and skill-building
  • Help students experiment with materials and create finished artworks to share with family, friends, and the school community
  • Foster a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages exploration and respect
  • Organize and manage art supplies and shared workspaces
  • Participate in MCAC-provided training, professional development, and program evaluation
  • Communicate regularly with MCAC staff regarding student progress, needs, and updates
  • Document and send weekly reports and recaps
  • Fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for participants
  • Participate in planning meetings and professional development sessions
  • Timely submission of reimbursement request, time sheets, and other administrative documents.
