Afterhours Hospice Nurse (RN) – Weeknights (Mon–Thurs) Mount Airy, NC Service Area | 5:00 PM – 8:00 AM Every Patient. Every Family. Every Time. An Excellent Opportunity Are you looking for a nursing role without a full caseload and nonstop visits—but still want to provide meaningful, hands-on care during some of life’s most important moments? This afterhours position is on call from home, but it is not fully remote. You must be available to travel for in-person visits when patient needs arise—including urgent symptom management and end-of-life care. You’ll cover Monday through Thursday (5:00 PM – 8:00 AM), responding to patient and family needs as they arise. There is no assigned caseload or scheduled visits—care is driven by patient needs and can vary throughout the shift. In this role, you will provide phone triage and support, travel to patient homes when needed, and deliver care for symptom management, active decline, and at times, support patients and families at the end of life—including during and immediately after death. These are often the moments when your presence matters most. What to Expect * On-call from home (not continuously working) * Must be able to leave home for in-person visits * No weekends Compensation * Competitive pay with afterhours shift differential * Additional pay for visits completed after 1:00 AM Qualifications * Active RN license (NC) * Hospice or home health experience preferred * Comfort providing end-of-life care and supporting families after death * Strong clinical judgment and ability to work independently * Must reside within a reasonable driving distance of the Mount Airy service area At Mountain Valley Hospice, we believe hospice is about living well.
