Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must have the ability to travel to different work locations throughout rural Manitoba and have access to personal vehicle for travel.
  • Must be able to work varied and extended hours as required, including overnights away from home.
  • A satisfactory criminal record check.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science, Public Health or Microbiology. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Experience working in a food processing facility, in the areas of quality assurance/food safety, and/or working in a regulatory food safety inspection system.
  • Knowledge of food safety hazards and risks.
  • Knowledge of food processing and common processes to control hazards.
  • Knowledge of the legislation governing food processors in Manitoba.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with difficult clients, resolve conflict situations and work in a team environment.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines and adaptive to meet changes in priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to use sound judgment to make decisions, often with limited time and information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the ability to use similar databases.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative to follow-through on projects and deal with challenges as they arise.

Duties:
The Agri-Food Inspector - Processing position inspects provincially licensed food processing premises. Inspection includes assessing food safety risks, ensuring appropriate food safety standards are being applied, and enforcing compliance with applicable provincial acts and regulations.
