• You work as an AI engineer on ChatAmsterdam: a secure AI chatbot for the municipality that helps civil servants work faster and better, without compromising privacy and security.
• You contribute to the development of the application in Python and RAG solutions in Azure and Databricks, mentor fellow data scientists, and help the team make technical decisions.
• Together with the AI ​​Development team, you work in a committed and technical team consisting of 9 colleagues who help each other, where you work on AI and take into account various interests and changes in major Amsterdam city politics.

The function

Amsterdam is using increasingly more data to make better decisions and improve service delivery. The Data Science & AI department plays a key role in this, particularly with predictive models and AI solutions. This theme will receive significant attention in the city in the coming years.

You will join the AI ​​Development team, an agile team consisting of software engineers, data scientists, a business analyst, a product owner, and a scrum master. They develop AI applications for colleagues within the municipality, such as ChatAmsterdam, enabling them to find information faster and better assist Amsterdammers. They also work on questions regarding the safe use of AI, privacy, reliable answers, accessibility, and clear explanations of how AI works. In doing so, they collaborate with policy colleagues, legal experts, information security specialists, privacy experts, and users from within the organization, among others.

In this role, you are at the heart of these developments: you help build AI that works technically well and aligns with Amsterdam's values. You design and develop robust RAG solutions in Azure and Databricks, and you develop software in Python and LangChain. You contribute ideas on how chatbots can be rolled out safely and responsibly within the municipal context.
