DroneShield (ASX:DRO) offers an opportunity to solve some of world’s most challenging technical problems in the Electronic Warfare, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, RF sensing, Sensor Fusion and distributed systems. Working with high profile customers across militaries, government agencies, airports, critical infrastructure, law enforcement and many others.
With one of the largest listed defence company market capitalisations in Australia and having raised approximately $250m in 2024 alone, DroneShield is undergoing hypergrowth stage, fuelled by rapidly increasing use of drones for nefarious applications, from battlefield, to terrorism, to contraband delivery and commercial espionage.
This role is in the DroneShield Sydney headquarters in Pyrmont, Sydney. There are approximately 220 staff based in the 4,000sqm facility today, scheduled to grow to approximately 300 staff by end of 2026. Overseas on the ground presence includes Virginia (USA), Denmark, Germany and Dubai, as well as distributors in over 70 countries globally.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Desirable BS degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or similar technical field of study or equivalent practical experience
- Experience leading a team of Engineers (+5 years)
- Ability to translate business requirements and objectives between the engineering and executive team
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, communicating effectively with engineers from non-software / data science backgrounds
- Track record for delivering commercial solutions through the entire life cycle
- Experience developing AI/ML based systems (+2 years)
- Electronic Warfare (EW) experience is highly valued

ABOUT THE ROLE
The company is seeking a Team Lead with relevant experience to join the development team in Sydney. The role is primarily focused on the development of DroneShield’s RF detect and defeat capabilities that are powered by AI/ML systems. It represents an exceptional opportunity for a result-driven individual in a new niche but exploding market.
RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS
- Lead the two AI/ML teams (Detect & Defeat) to deliver against business requirements
- Manage a highly capable and established machine learning and artificial intelligence in the AI/ML teams
- Manage a diverse range of stakeholders during the research and develop state-of-the-art algorithms (Hardware, Software, FPGA)
- Delivery of with an end product focus
