About this role PlanetBids is seeking an experienced software engineer that specializes in bringing AI-powered capabilities to end-users to help lead the next evolution of public sector procurement technology. What we offer PlanetBids is pleased to provide all full-time team members with the following benefits: Competitive pay that recognizes your skills and contributions Flexible scheduling in a fully remote environment Unlimited PTO with an annual vacation bonus to encourage recharging Medical insurance with generous company contributions Dental and vision insurance with 100% of employee premiums paid by the company Company-paid short-term and long-term disability coverage Company-paid life and AD&D insurance, with options to increase your coverage Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Dependent Care FSA options 401(k) plan with both Traditional and Roth options, immediate vesting, and an employer match Legal Club membership for personal legal support Employee Assistance Program for confidential counseling and resources Career pathing and professional development to help you grow and thrive A collaborative, engaged culture where your ideas matter and your voice is heard Requirements Role Responsibilities Architect and implement scalable AI integration patterns (RAG pipelines, agentic workflows, MCP tools, structured extraction, summarization, compliance intelligence) that can be reused across the platform Design and deliver production-grade AI-powered features embedded within mission-critical procurement workflows, including internal tooling Define and implement evaluation frameworks, observability, and guardrails to ensure model quality, cost governance, security, and compliance Partner with architecture leadership to evolve our legacy monolithic platform toward more modular, service-oriented capabilities Establish engineering standards for AI systems, including testing strategies, prompt/version management, model lifecycle practices, and performance monitoring Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, UX and domain subject matter experts (internal and external) to ensure AI solutions solve real user problems Contribute to architectural reviews and technical design sessions to ensure alignment with long-term platform modernization goals Use PlanetBids issued AI tools and platforms to seek efficiencies in your role Produce clear technical documentation to support maintainability and knowledge sharing Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, including delivering production systems at scale Demonstrated experience building AI-powered applications used by end-users, including RAG systems, model fine-tuning, structured extraction, or multi-step orchestration workflows Strong proficiency in one or more of the following: Python, TypeScript, C#, or similar modern programming languages Experience designing data models and working with SQL and NoSQL databases Experience integrating with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and automated testing strategies Strong understanding of distributed systems principles, scalability, and secure software design Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to travel up to 20%. Ability to work both autonomously as well as within a team in a remote work environment. As a requirement, all candidates must be physically based in the United States and able to legally work for any employer.
