About the Role Kongsberg Digital is building the AI-first future of industry. We are seeking an AI Researcher to pioneer new approaches in multimodal intelligence, explainable AI, and safe autonomy. Your work will bridge cutting-edge research with Kongsberg’s mission-critical domains of heavy asset industries. Responsibilities Conduct research in AI, reinforcement learning, anomaly detection, and optimization for industrial autonomy. Develop novel algorithms for predictive maintenance, safety monitoring, and energy efficiency. Advance trustworthy and explainable AI for safety-critical and regulated environments. Explore knowledge graphs, contextual AI, and self-learning agents to power intelligent copilots. Prototype new methods that can be hardened into production by engineering teams. Contribute to papers, patents, and open research to position Kongsberg as a leader in industrial AI. Leverage Kongsberg's world-class digital twin and simulation platforms to develop and validate novel algorithms for safe autonomy in complex industrial environments. Work in a collaborative environment, partnering closely with applied AI engineers and domain experts to ensure a clear path from fundamental research to real-world impact. Qualifications PhD (or equivalent research experience) in AI/ML, Robotics, or Computer Science. Strong publication record in top AI/ML or robotics conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, ICRA, AAAI). Deep knowledge of optimization, probabilistic modeling, or control theory. Proficiency with algorithm prototyping. Familiarity with safety-critical AI, adversarial robustness, and hybrid (physics + ML) methods. Background in industrial domains is a plus.
