Description

The Senior Tax Manager is responsible in assisting in the implementation of the organization’s hotel tax strategy. This role will also be responsible for coordinating with a third-party tax service provider all hotel Sales, Use and Occupancy Tax returns and will handle a variety of complex tax projects. The position is responsible for ensuring proper functioning of the department through direct oversight and development, implementation and monitoring of appropriate policies and procedures. Management-level associates are expected to work as much of each workday as is necessary to complete their job responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting plus minimum 8 years of tax, manager and accounting experience, preferably in the real estate/hospitality field.
  • Experience with preparing for preparation, review and filing of Sales & Use Tax returns.
  • Experience with working with tax auditors.
  • Experience with multi-state tax processing and filings.
  • CPA or related designation preferred.
  • Strong leadership, coordination and coaching skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Requires extensive knowledge of accounting, particularly the application of State and Local tax rules and regulations.
  • Requires thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Experience applying business process improvement, cost reduction and efficiency programs.
  • Experience leading a team.
Responsibilities
  • Adhere to the policies outlined in the Aimbridge Employee Handbook.
  • Coordinate with third-party tax service providers including preparers, filers, auditors, and technology vendors.
  • Monitor performance of third-party tax service providers and resolve issues when needed.
  • Supervise and train staff to ensure accurate / quality control, efficient and timely preparation, and submittal of tax filings; mitigate instances of penalties and punitive assessments due to mistakes or late filings.
  • Monitor adherence to financial controls including segregation of duties.
  • Maintain relationships and advise on communication between accounting staff and tax staff to ensure property-level data is provided to tax department in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for implementation and adherence to Aimbridge document management and retention policies.
  • Perform bi-annual review of tax preparation systems to ensure appropriateness of end-user permissions and roles.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops or classes; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks, participating in professional organizations.
  • Continual analysis on new local tax laws to minimize tax liabilities while assuring compliance.
  • Assist in sales and use tax audit defense in a timely manner by communicating with Tax Audit and Hotel Tax Priorities teams by responding to information requests and notices and to resolve tax issues.
  • Ability to communicate concisely and effectively.
  • Executing projects as designated by their supervisor to meet the department’s KPI goals.
  • Continually improve department’s process and procedures to drive efficiency.
