Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Are you a senior software engineer ready to step into a leadership position?
This is a unique opportunity to transition into a key technical Team Lead role that blends your software development expertise with configuration management and delivery oversight.
As the AIR6500 Software Configuration Management (SWCM) Lead, you will be part of a high-performing Agile DevSecOps team, contributing to a mission-critical project in a collaborative, modern engineering environment. You will lead and enhance core SWCM disciplines—including version control, change management, build management, and release management—ensuring consistency, traceability, and quality across the software development lifecycle.
This role is ideal for someone with a strong software background who’s ready to extend their impact beyond coding—into team leadership, process ownership, and strategic delivery alignment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and oversee software builds across integration, verification & validation (V&V), and final delivery stages, with a focus on code promotion and deployment.
  • Define and refine processes and work instructions to maintain configuration discipline throughout the project.
  • Ensure all software elements are accurately baselined and integrated within the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system as part of the overall system configuration.
  • Develop and implement release strategies aligned with industry best practice.
  • Define and enforce standards for using tools such as JIRA and GitLab to manage source code and track changes.
  • Participate in engineering reviews to ensure compliance with configuration management requirements.
  • Lead software configuration audits and guide developers in resolving related issues.
  • Mentor and support team members, fostering technical excellence and continuous improvement.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline from a recognised institution, and/or equivalent relevant experience (preferably within the defence industry).
  • Strong experience with version control and repository management tools (e.g. GitLab, Nexus).
  • Proven expertise in CI/CD tools such as GitLab.
  • Solid background in Agile software development.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor technical teams in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
  • An Australian NV-1 security clearance and ability to access/handle Export Controlled technology, data and information
