Description
This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring employees to be in our local office at least four days per week. Corporate housing and relocation are available for those who are eligible. Your responsibilities will include: Contribute to the design and development of implantable technologies that address unmet clinical needs in cardiac rhythm management and heart failure therapy, supporting AIS's mission to transform patient care across the continuum. Support material selection for encapsulant development, including early identification and procurement of candidate materials to align with long lead-time constraints. Conduct material characterization testing to evaluate uncured encapsulant properties relevant to automated dispensing, including rheological profiling (e.g., shear rate and temperature-dependent viscosity, thixotropic index). Perform controlled dispense and cure experiments in a lab bench setting to assess processability and consistency across material options. Develop and optimize cure regimens tailored to encapsulant formulations, followed by characterization of cured properties such as Coefficient of Thermal Expansion and Dielectric Strength. Simulate downstream PCB processing conditions (e.g., moisture sensitivity, lead-free reflow, selective encapsulation) and evaluate encapsulant performance through warpage and reliability measurements. Apply statistical analysis methods to interpret experimental data, identify trends, and support data-driven decision-making. Prepare technical summary reports to communicate findings, recommendations, and next steps to cross-functional teams including materials, process, and device development groups. Current rising junior (grad dates between Fall 2027 - Spring 2028) Pursuing a Bachelors or graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or Material Science & Engineering (minors accepted) Coursework, lab, or work experience in Material Sciences Must be able to start internship on May 18th or 26th, 2026 and work for 12 weeks Must have reliable transportation to/from work. Experience with rheological testing. Experience programming dispense equipment. Has a basic understanding of curing properties. Experience performing statistical analysis of data. Experience writing technical summary reports of engineering or research projects. Effective communication and organizational abilities. Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently or in a team environment.
Responsibilities
Contribute to the design and development of implantable technologies for cardiac rhythm management. Conduct material characterization testing and optimize cure regimens for encapsulant formulations.
