Description

ABOUT US

OHB Italia is a key player in the design, development, and deployment of cutting-edge telescopic systems supporting global Space Situational Awareness (SSA), Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST), and Near-Earth Object (NEO) observation initiatives. Our Telescope Department is leading the deployment of high-performance telescopes in some of the most iconic and pristine observatory locations worldwide.
We are currently seeking a motivated and hands-on AIT (Assembly, Integration and Test) Engineer to join our growing team. The selected candidate will play a crucial role in assembling, aligning, testing, and commissioning our telescopes both at our facilities and at remote international observatory sites.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Degree (Bachelor or Master) in Engineering, Aerospace, Physics or related fields.
  • At least 2 years of professional experience in AIT or system integration environments.
  • Practical experience with mechanical and optical handling and alignment.
  • Basic proficiency with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA).
  • Skilled in using MS Office and standard reporting tools.
  • Strong teamworking attitude, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot integration issues and propose effective solutions.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple concurrent tasks and schedules.
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written); additional languages are a plus.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and remain on-site for medium to long-term international missions (up to several weeks or months).
Responsibilities

As an AIT Engineer, you will:

  • Execute Integration & Test activities of medium-sized telescopes, including opto-mechanical subsystems, both in-house and on-site.
  • Conduct optical alignment and calibration, working closely with optical and system engineers to ensure high-precision setup.
  • Prepare AIT documentation, including test procedures, integration workflows, reports and as-run procedures.
  • Handle critical assemblies, including optical mounts, structural elements, and Ground Support Equipment (GSE).
  • Participate in night observation campaigns and system verification tests under real sky conditions.
  • Support technical reviews and meetings, contributing to design improvement feedback based on hands-on test results.
  • Coordinate with logistics and operations teams for the setup and support of site installation missions globally.
