Description DEPARTMENT: NURSING POSITION TITLE: ASSISTED LIVING COTTAGE RESOURCE CNA RESPONSIBLE TO: ASSISTED LIVING COTTAGE COORDINATOR/ AL ADMINISTRATOR EXPOSURE LEVEL: CATEGORY II EXEMPTION STATUS: NON - EXEMPT ______________________________________________________________________________ SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Assisted Living Cottage Coordinator, this position provides quality, professional, nursing care and medical oversight to St. John’s Residents. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Nursing Works closely with all healthcare providers including physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and nurse aides to determine appropriate care. Responds to and leads emergency situations. Completes medical records on elders. Performs record keeping according to policies developed by St. John’s United in accordance with State and Federal Regulations. Performs CNA duties as needed Work closely with Cottage Coordinator to ensure adequate staffing and quality care. Administers Medication proficiently as needed. Promotes the Elder’s well-being and satisfaction by supporting elder-centered care while working as a member of the Clinical Support Team. Operations: Supplies: replenishes, orders, inventory and organization of all required general supplies including medical Nursing Equipment: manages the equipment used by nursing department inclusive of maintenance, cleaning and organizing Rounds frequently to ensure efficiency and compliance within the cottages Resource Supervises staff in assigned areas & provides productive feedback to Cottage Coordinator. Coaches, mentors and educates assigned employees. Develops referral and supports relationships with Elders of all care levels. Facilitates appropriate staffing levels and schedule. Participates in community activities with staff and residents to build strong relationships within the cottages. Assists with Process Development and Quality Improvement. Communication/Reporting Reports pertinent issues to the Assisted Living on call as necessary. Manages on-call phone while on shift. This entails receiving and handling call offs respectfully and proficiently. Maintains inventory of equipment. Facilitates the delivery of equipment/supplies to the area of need. Manipulates schedule to assure all care areas throughout campus have care coverage, most importantly during “crisis staffing”. Maintains the confidentiality of all Elder care information according to the St. John’s Policy on confidentially and Elders Rights. Dining Services Assists in the meal time process, serving coffee, greeting residents, guests, family members. Ensures equipment temperatures are taken and documented on every scheduled shift. Audits refrigerators/ freezers for compliance. Performs other duties as necessary to ensure a pleasant atmosphere and timely mealtime for all. Safety Obeys safety rules of St. John’s United. Identifies, reports, and/or corrects obvious safety hazards. Attends Mandatory safety in-services. Utilizes proper body mechanics when transferring Elders. Follows established policies and procedures when exposed to blood/body fluids. Wears and/or uses safety equipment and supplies (i.e. gait belts, mechanical lifts, personal; protective equipment). Follows policy and procedures on annual influenza vaccinations. Attends all mandatory in-services. Attends and participates in scheduled training and educational classes to maintain license in accord with the State of Montana. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements REQUIREMENTS: Minimum Requirements Must be licensed as a CNA in the State of Montana. Two to five years of experience in Assisted Living or Skilled Facility is desired. Experience in Medication Administration in an Assisted Living Facility preferred. Knowledge, skills, and abilities required Ability to understand and express written and verbal communication Ability to interact effectively and professionally with Elders, family members, coworkers and other clinical support staff Ability to work independently and within a team Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects Ability to understand and follow safety policies and procedures Ability to use various health care supplies and equipment, including blood pressure devices, thermometers, wheelchairs, lifts, and oxygen suppliers, etc.… Ability to understand and to contribute to Elder charts and care plans Ability to relate to and work with the ill, elderly, disabled, emotionally upset, and at times, combative residents within the facility Ability to respond to Elder needs in a timely and professional manner, recognizing the Elder’s rights Ability to deal with stressful situations (i.e. death and dying) PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires moderate physical work more than 70% of the time, including lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, walking, and bending for prolonged periods of time. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work involves some exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. Work involves some exposure to hazards, bloodborne pathogens, or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions. Normal health care environment. Work involves exposure to plants and animals within the environment.
