Position Overview
As a Security System Technician, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting various security systems including alarm systems, access control infrastructure and CCTV. You will work independently or as part of a team to ensure projects are completed to specification, safely, and on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, test, and service alarm systems, including ICT and DSC systems.
- Set up and maintain access control systems for card and fob entry.
- Run and neatly conceal wiring in walls, ceilings, door frames, and other structural areas.
- Install and configure CCTV and IP-based camera systems (e.g. Hanwha, Axis, Dahua, Hikvision, Ajax).
- Terminate RJ45 connectors and ensure connections meet standards.
- Interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Ensure all work is compliant with low-voltage electrical code and best practices.
- Perform routine maintenance and system checks.
- Maintain clean job sites and follow safe work procedures at all times.
Mandatory Requirements (Please Read Carefully)
All of the following qualifications are required. Candidates who do not meet these will not be considered.
Alarm System Experience:
- Proficiency with commercial and residential alarm systems, particularly ICT and DSC platforms.
- Knowledgeable in DSC and alarm.com.
- Knowledge in installing and configuring alarm systems in DLS5 software.
- Ability to troubleshoot alarm faults and program alarm zones.
CCTV and IP Camera Knowledge:
- Must have hands-on experience installing and configuring camera systems from brands like Hanwha, Axis, Dahua, Hikvision, and Ajax.
- Strong understanding of camera angles, coverage, IP addressing, and NVR integration.
Access Control System Proficiency:
- Knowledge of physical access systems including card and fob entry systems.
- Experience with wiring and configuring access controllers and door hardware.
4 Clean G-Class Driver’s License (Ontario):
- A valid Ontario G-class license is required, along with a clean driving abstract (no serious violations).
5 Physical Ability:
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs and be comfortable working on ladders, in ceilings, and confined spaces when required.
6 Wiring and Cable Management:
- Skilled in running, securing, and concealing cabling in a tidy, professional manner.
- Ability to terminate RJ45 Ethernet connections to spec.
7 Low Voltage Knowledge:
- Strong grasp of low-voltage wiring standards and specifications for security systems, access control, and alarms.
Safety Expectations
- Must wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) at all job sites as required.
- Follow all workplace safety protocols, including fall protection, electrical safety, and proper use of ladders and tools.
- Maintain WHMIS knowledge and be prepared to complete training if not certified.
- Report any hazards, incidents, or equipment issues immediately.
