POSITION: Airport Maintenance Technician                       This position follows all provisions of the CSEA collective bargaining agreement. SPECIALTY: Lead Airfield Maintenance REPORTS TO: Airfield Maintenance Supervisor  LOCATION: ALB AIRPORT: Albany International Airport SUMMARY Directs Maintenance Technicians in a wide variety of tasks involved in airfield and grounds maintenance. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.   * Notifies and coordinates routine and non-routine maintenance and the replacement and/or replenishment of tools and supplies with Superintendent of Vehicle/Equipment and Airfield Maintenance. * Conducts and/or attends various training sessions to teach or acquire the skills necessary to meet safety requirements and operate all types of equipment and to conduct snow removal and emergency operations. * Inspects tools and equipment on a regular basis to ensure operational safety. * Directs and performs routine and non-routine inspection and maintenance of the airfield and airport grounds on a frequent basis to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the airport and to determine maintenance needs and plan work procedures;  * operates heavy equipment, including dump trucks, snow plows, blowers, brooms, loaders, graters, mowers, crack sealers, paint stripers, jack hammers, compressors, forklifts and pavement cutters in maintaining the airport grounds, runways, taxiways, ramps and lighting system. * Participates in Total Quality Management Programs. LEAD RESPONSIBILITIES Directs Airfield Maintenance Technicians. Carries out lead responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; assisting in appraising performance, interacting with employees to resolve problems.   QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, disabilities to perform the essential functions. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (GED); three years ground maintenance or related experience, airfield experience preferred, involving the use of hand and power tools and the operation of a wide variety of heavy equipment, with two years supervisory experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. MATHIMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add subtract, multiply, and divide in all units measure, using whole numbers common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute area, distance, rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Must possess and maintain a valid New York State Driver’s License and be able to obtain a C.D. L., Class B, license within 90 days of employment, as a condition of employment.
