ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUG TECHNICIAN (MALE)

JOB SUMMARY: The male Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Technician is a Substance Use Disorder Specialist responsible for conducting the collection and monitoring of AOD Screen urine test samples from referred male juveniles and/or male adults for substance abuse services. Some weekends and evenings required.

Responsibilities
  • Effectively demonstrates working knowledge of the Juvenile Justice System.
  • Demonstrates punctuality on a regular basis, with minimal tardiness and absences without previously informing the supervisor.
  • Proficient in the use of AFS database systems, and maintains the appropriate computer skills, in order to successfully accomplish all job responsibilities.
  • Reviews required documentation and accurately prescribes authorization for male AOD screenings.
  • Consistently reviews the SAER for juvenile’s eligibility and frequency of AOD screenings.
  • Accurately reviews all male rosters and required documents to ensure eligibility requirement compliance for AOD Screening and testing, before conducting a urine specimen collection.
  • Consistently informs all referred male juveniles and/or male adults of the AFS Substance Use Services process and requirements, as well as their recipient rights and confidentiality.
  • Consistently takes the appropriate precautions to prevent contamination and/or tampering of the specimens collected.
  • Accurately labels each urine specimen collected, records information on a drug test log, and transports for lab processing.
  • Knowledgeable of, and consistently follows, the Chain-Of-Custody procedures to ensure effective monitoring, collection and transportation of urine specimens.
  • Promptly notifies the CMO if a juvenile has been determined ineligible and/or has exceeded the number of tests allowed for the week, within 24 hours of the scheduled service date.
  • Consistently provides accurate, weekly updates to the supervisor to ensure timely data management practices, data reporting and result distribution.
  • Demonstrates the ability to implement problem-solving mechanisms in both routine and emergency situations.
  • Demonstrates the ability to identify and resolve interpersonal and professional conflicts when dealing with members of the organization.
  • Facilitates the work of management by performing other duties assigned.
  • Attends all routine, intensive trainings and supervisions to ensure that the proper data entry guidelines are consistent and accurate, and adhere to all AFS and WC-HHVS standards.
  • Investigates and responds appropriately to all complaints and takes effective corrective action when necessary.
  • Attends all bi-weekly Substance Abuse Services meetings, as well as any all-staff meetings.
    QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma. (Bachelors degree preferred). Experience working conducting drug screens. Ability to demonstrate a high value for accountability, accuracy and reliability are a must. Must have exemplary organizational skills with an acute attention to detail.
    Strong and effective communication skills both written and verbally. Strong computer skills a must.
