About Urban Assembly Academy of Government and Law (AGL)
AGL is a small public high school in Manhattan’s Lower East Side that prepares diverse students for college and career success through a rigorous law-themed curriculum. All students graduate having taken multiple AP courses, and the school offers enriching activities, including moot court, mock trial competitions, and partnerships with major NYC law firms.

Position Overview - Math Teacher (Algebra II Focus)
We’re seeking a passionate educator to join our mathematics department for the 2025-2026 school year! This position offers the opportunity to teach rigorous mathematics within our unique law-themed curriculum, working with diverse learners in a collaborative and supportive environment.

What You’ll DoTeaching Responsibilities
- Teach mathematics courses including Algebra II and other courses as assigned
- Implement rigorous, student-centered learning environments that uphold high expectations for all students
- Align curriculum with NYS Next Generation Standards and Illustrative Math
- Integrate mathematical concepts with law and government themes unique to AGL
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues in a team-oriented environment

What We’re Looking For: Required Qualifications
- NYS Math certification required (grades 7-12)
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or related field
- Passionate educator who believes all students can achieve academic success
- Commitment to continuous growth and professional development
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to work effectively with colleagues
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)
- Team leadership experience
- SPED (Special Education) certification
- Master’s degree in Mathematics, Education, or related field
- Experience with urban education and diverse student populations
- Familiarity with restorative practices and social-emotional learning
- Experience with co-teaching and ICT partnerships
