An Allen Bradley Controls Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining control systems using Allen Bradley (Rockwell Automation) hardware and software. Key aspects of the job description include:

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong knowledge of Allen Bradley software and process controls experience.
  • Proficiency in ladder logic programming and HMI development.
  • Experience with Rockwell Automation software products integrated with Allen Bradley systems.
  • Understanding of safety regulations in manufacturing environments (e.g., NFPA & OSHA).
  • Familiarity with industrial networks and communication protocols.
  • Experience in electrical drawings and integrating Safety PLC control systems.
  • Basic understanding of automation, robotics, and fluid power systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or a related field from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Typically, years of experience in controls engineering or related positions.
  • Some positions may require experience in specific industries or with certain types of equipment (e.g., CNC machines, vision systems).

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement PLC programs for Allen Bradley systems, particularly using ControlLogix, SLC, and PLC5 platforms.
  • Design and develop HMI interfaces using Rockwell Automation software, including FactoryTalk and RSView.
  • Oversee ongoing operations, maintenance, and design of process control systems and instrumentation.
  • Troubleshoot issues and modify software to optimize and improve plant control systems.
  • Collaborate with project teams to understand automation requirements and manage system upgrade projects.
  • Work with equipment suppliers to ensure compliance with company specifications.
  • Assist maintenance teams in troubleshooting machine breakdowns and electrical circuits.
