POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Allied Health Assistant to join our team at First Step Therapies.
The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about working with a multidisciplinary team and is keen to develop their skills. They are also dedicated to promoting independence and improving the quality of life for our clients.

KEY JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Allied Health Assistant (AHA) supports the delivery of therapeutic services under the supervision and guidance of Speech Pathologists and Occupational Therapists. The AHA plays a vital role in implementing therapy programs, preparing resources, and assisting clients to achieve their functional goals in various settings including clinics, schools, homes, and the community.

Qualifications/permits:

  • Currently studying towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an allied health profession (highly desirable but not essential)
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification
  • Valid Queensland Driver’s License
  • Valid Queensland Blue Card (Working with Children Check
Responsibilities
  • Support Therapy Delivery: Assist in the implementation of individualised therapy plans developed by SPs and OTs, including communication, sensory-motor, and daily living activities.
  • Client Interaction: Work directly with clients to carry out prescribed therapy activities, ensuring safety and appropriate engagement.
  • Resource Preparation: Create, organise, and maintain therapy resources and materials to support intervention plans.
  • Observation & Reporting: Monitor client progress and behavior during sessions; document observations and report to supervising therapists.
  • Environment Setup: Prepare and maintain therapy spaces to be safe, welcoming, and suitable for therapy activities.
  • Equipment Management: Set up, clean, and store therapeutic equipment and tools as directed.
  • Collaboration: Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and maintain open communication with supervising therapists.
  • Administrative Support: Assist with documentation, scheduling, and record-keeping as needed.
