Your role at St John of God Midland Public Hospital As an Allied Health Assistant, you will be required to provide clinical and administrative support to physiotherapists, occupational therapists, other therapy and nursing staff as required. This position will be in the Maali Unit which cares for patients with behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD). You will be facilitating an Enhance programme running groups and providing one to one intervention. The focus is on patient choice and engagement in ADLs and meaningful tasks according to the Montessori principles for dementia. Shifts are 7 hours from 7.30am to 3.00pm The Position Provide clinical assistance to the physiotherapists, occupational therapists, nursing and other health care professionals as required. Actively monitor the environment and implement safe work practices to ensure patient and staff safety. Supervise and assist patients in exercise routines, gait activities and daily living activities as directed by the treating allied health care professional. Ensure adequate levels of all stock items are maintained. Participate in staff education programs as required. Provide administrative support to department staff as requested. Assist with patient transfers, dressing and showering in hydrotherapy (if applicable). Provide administrative support to hospital staff as requested by Department Manager. Report all hazards regarding patients promptly to the treating allied health caregiver or Nurse Unit Manager. You must hold a certificate III Allied Health Assistance, or suitable experience in a similar position or currently completing tertiary studies in an Allied Health discipline. You will have highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to relate to others in a sensitive and professional manner. To succeed you will have well-developed organisational skills, with an ability to manage your own workflow and cope with competing demands, as well as the demonstrated ability and commitment to maintaining confidentiality. Responsibilities
