The Nepean Mental Health Centre provides inpatient care for people experiencing acute mental health issues through the short-stay Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre (PECC), the Acute Mental Health Unit, Mental Health High Dependency Unit, and Older Persons Mental Health Unit. We support our Patients by linking them to case managers for ongoing treatment and support within an environment appropriate to the person’s needs.
We are seeking a motivated Allied Health Assistant (AHA) to join our multidisciplinary inpatient allied health team. In this role, you will deliver clinical and administrative support under the direction of supervising allied health professionals, contributing to safe, high-quality, and timely care for mental health inpatients with acute and complex needs. Reporting to the Allied Health Team Leader, supervising clinicians, and Nursing Unit Managers, you will assist in patient care through psychoeducation, therapeutic group facilitation, individual assessments, interventions, and care coordination, all within a structured supervision framework.

Responsibilities
  • Certificate III or IV in Allied Health Assistance or relevant equivalent qualification or willingness to complete the required skills and competencies for the role.
  • Demonstrate a commitment and openness to learning, growing, and developing.
  • Previous work experience with consumers with mental illness or an understanding of mental health recovery-oriented principles and trauma-informed care concepts.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate across all levels with internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise workload, meet deadlines, and complete activities (including ability to work within scope of practice and seek assistance when required) as delegated by supervision Allied Health Professional.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office and email applications
