Description

Piper Companies is seeking an Ammonia Facilities Technician for a pioneering food technology company in Wilson, North Carolina (NC). The Ammonia Facilities Technician will be responsible for hands-on operation and maintenance of ammonia refrigeration systems, basic HVAC and facility upkeep, and strict adherence to safety and Process Safety Management (PSM) protocols. The Ammonia Facilities Technician will be on-site in Wilson, NC that will be on a 2-2-3 rotating shift schedule.

Responsibilities of the Ammonia Facilities Technician:

  • Operate and maintain ammonia refrigeration (NH₃) systems per safety and PSM standards.
  • Perform regular inspections to prevent leaks and ensure system integrity.

Qualifications for the Ammonia Facilities Technician:

  • 3+ years of facilities maintenance experience, ideally in biotech or food manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of ammonia refrigeration (RETA 1 required, RETA 2 within 30 days), HVAC, and general building systems.
  • Industrial electrical and basic PLC experience preferred.
  • Willingness to join HAZMAT team and obtain lift operator certification (training provided).
  • Familiarity with GMP standards and OSHA 10 (training provided).
  • Strong problem-solving, computer skills, and ability to pass background, drug, and physical screening.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE AMMONIA FACILITIES TECHNICIAN:

  • Must pass a Pulmonary Function Test, Respiratory Fit Test, and physical exam.
  • Requires mobility to navigate stairs, confined spaces, and uneven surfaces.
  • Needs manual dexterity for tool use and intricate maintenance tasks.
  • Must have physical endurance and strength to lift up to 50 lbs. and work long hours.
