Job Description
Location: Portsmouth Enablement Centre, St Marys Community Healthcare Campus, Milton Road
Position Type: Permanent, full-time 37.5 hours per week
Salary: NHS Agenda for Change Band 5 £29,970 - £36,483 per annum

Join us as an Exercise Rehabilitation Instructor to support individuals with limb absence by providing advice, exercise, self-management, and treatment interventions.
The PEC is a specialist regional centre with a strong research focus and provides fantastic integrated working with a diverse MDT. The large rehabilitation gym and specialist equipment provides a dynamic environment for working towards patient goals for home, work, and sporting activities. This sought after opportunity will provide a wealth of experience in this specialty area and develop skills to assist patients to regain their mobility following limb loss.
As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for: -
- Carrying out assessments of patients with limb loss and identify appropriate interventions under the guidance of qualified Therapists.
- Designing exercise programmes, including home exercise programmes for individual patients.
- Supervising and progressing individual patient’s rehabilitation programmes, considering their needs and progress along the patient pathway
- Implementing rehabilitation programmes for individuals that address their needs and goals.
- Assisting and conducting rehabilitation classes
- Ensuring high standards of health and safety are maintained to ensure safety of patients and compliance with trust policy.
You will be required to: -
- Lead and demonstrate sport specific activities to patients to a high degree of skill and physical fitness.
- Contribute and develop both policies and procedures for the use of the gym and rehabilitation protocols.
- Translate a theoretical knowledge in anatomy and physiology and strength and conditioning to this patient population.
- Have an active role within the MDT to ensure a holistic approach to patient care.
Experience of working with individuals with limb difference is desirable but not essential as patient specific training can be offered.

Qualifications
Essential
- BA/BSc Sports Science/Sports Rehabilitation or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Clinical experience of the specialty area (i.e. Physiotherapy/Occupational therapy care, Amputation and prosthetic rehabilitation, or associated rehabilitation specialities such as Stroke or older persons healthcare, MSK rehabilitation).
- Evidence of group and individual fitness and rehabilitation instruction.
- Experienced in designing individual and group exercise programmes.
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
Essential
- Knowledge of therapeutic procedures and practices;
- Significant experience of working in a relevant health or social care setting
- Full driving license with appropriate car insurance.
- Motivation to meet the patients needs.
- Ability to demonstrate confidentiality and trustworthiness.
- A willingness to be flexible and part of a team.
- Ability to manage many priorities at one time, whilst remaining calm
