Location:Currently, CAUBO is a remote-first organization with team members primarily located in Ottawa. Candidates must reside in Ontario and within 200km of downtown Ottawa in order to meet in person as required (typically once a month).
This role does not require advanced data science skills such as predictive modeling, statistical inference, or machine learning. The position focuses on organizing, coordinating and validating sector data, clearly interpreting and communicating trends and insights based on established information sources, and effective presentation of key metrics to support higher education administration.

La mission de l’ACPAU consiste notamment à fournir un point de vue national sur des sujets liés à l’administration de l’enseignement supérieur et à faciliter les interactions entre les membres pour qu’ils puissent échanger des informations, cibler les opportunités et partager des solutions. Dans ce contexte, l’analyste de données est un membre estimé de la petite équipe d’analystes de l’ACPAU qui contribue à l’atteinte de cette mission.
L’analyste apporte son concours aux sondages, ressources et projets analytiques de l’ACPAU. Il ou elle veille à la distribution des analyses comparatives annuelles et enquêtes statistiques des universités canadiennes et coordonne le traitement des réponses. Plus particulièrement, cette personne est responsable du rapport Information financière des universités et collèges (IFUC) et du sondage sur les placements, en plus de divers sondages descriptifs et analytiques réalisés chaque année.
Sous la supervision de la gestionnaire des programmes analytiques et de la directrice générale, l’analyste entreprend l’analyse quantitative et qualitative des enjeux d’intérêt pour les membres de l’ACPAU. Cette analyse couvre notamment les portraits financiers à l’échelle du pays, des provinces et des établissements, ainsi que la série « Valorisation des données » exploitant les outils analytiques des vastes bases de données de l’ACPAU.
L’analyste contribue aussi à d’autres produits analytiques clés, comme les indicateurs de santé financière et les ententes nationales de l’ACPAU.

Responsibilities

Key Analytical Responsibilities (Approximately 50% of overall time)

A primary component of the Analyst’s responsibilities relates to the CAUBO’s and the

  • Incorporate data from CAUBO’s analytical tools as well as other sources to provide a comprehensive overview of the financial situation at the national and provincial level.
  • Contextualize the data in order to provide analysis of the broader sector trends in higher education.
  • Coordinate institutional requests, confirm the requested specifications and institutional comparators.
  • Serve as the key contact for consultants working to develop institutional landscapes; this encompasses disseminating necessary information regarding the institutional request, monitoring progress.
  • Key among this is conducting the quality control and data validation of the institutional landscapes produced by the consultants and facilitating the review and feedback as necessary.

The Analyst is also responsible for providing support to CAUBO members and a number of CAUBO committees and advisory/working groups, in the following capacities:

  • Provide support to members regarding data requests or queries for information, as directed by the Manager, Analytical Programs or Executive Director
  • As required and at the direction of the Executive Director or Manager, Analytical Programs, develop surveys and dashboards in order to obtain and present information relevant to these groups
  • Provide analytical, logistical and coordination support to CAUBO’s working/advisory groups and Thought Leader Advisory Groups (TLAGs), as requested by the Executive Director or Manager, Analytical Programs
  • Participate in the meetings of these committees and groups and maintain notes and a log of action items as requested and as necessary, advise the Executive Director or Manager, Analytical Programs of a potential lapse regarding any project action items

Key Support Responsibilities (Approximately 50% of overall time)

The Analyst is responsible for the following with respect to

  • Provide pre-launch support, including confirming the contacts and preparation of survey tool and survey materials
  • Launch survey by distributing the survey materials to members (FIUC)
  • Throughout the survey period and on an on-going basis, actively monitor and track survey submissions, sending deadline reminders as required and escalate the request to the Manager, Analytical Programs for submissions not yet obtained
  • Provide support to survey respondents regarding questions for clarification or interpretation of the survey questions, instructions or guidelines, escalating questions to the Manager, Analytical Programs as necessary
  • Provide validation officers with necessary files in order for them to perform their duties
  • Prepare the data file and provide support for release and posting of the FIUC
  • Support the Manager, Analytical Programs during the data validation and initial report generation by reviewing submissions in order to identify any potential discrepancies or reporting errors and contacting regarding the potential discrepancies in order to confirm corrections.   • Provide support to the Manager, Analytical Programs in finalizing and producing the final report including preparing data for the pre-conference presentation and University Manager highlights article (Investment Survey)

The Analyst is responsible for providing support for other descriptive and analytical benchmark surveys as follows:

  • Provide logistical and analytical support to the Executive Director, Manager, Analytical Programs and/or the working/advisory group during the survey question development
  • Produce the online survey using CAUBO’s online survey platform, ensuring the survey is consistent with CAUBO’s brand standards regarding style, question language and format
  • Confirm and prepare the survey distribution list.
  • Draft any necessary communications material, including the survey launch communication
  • Track survey responses and send reminders to survey contacts, as required and directed
  • As requested, provide support during the data review, validation and analysis of survey results as well as the preparation of the report and supplemental dashboard development

Support CAUBO’s National Agreements as follows:

  • Respond to member requests for information and complaints regarding vendors, liaise with key contacts and escalate issues to the Manager, Analytical Programs as required, in order to address members’ concerns
  • Perform periodic updates and maintenance to the hotel database, subject to requests for changes and addition of new properties
  • Support the request of quotes process (biennially for the Hotel and Car Rental Programs), including the preparation of RFQ documents and supporting material
  • Coordinate and collate the data usage reports, as requested, for the Hotel and Car Rental Programs
