Description
Company Description About Us Minderoo Foundation takes on tough, persistent issues with the potential to drive massive change. We incubate ideas, advocate for systems change and accelerate impact. We push the limits of what is believed possible. Minderoo Foundation is proudly Australian, independent, forward thinking and seeks effective, scalable solutions. Through bold, collaborative and selfless action, we seek to dismantle the systems that entrench inequality and advocate for a fairer future. Minderoo’s Impact Missions team responds to existential threats and time-sensitive urgent challenges, with a focus on issues that sit outside of the Focus Areas’ remit. Impact Missions operates with agility through a lean Development and Delivery team that will consider, test, and develop new concepts, and plan how Minderoo can make a strong contribution by delivering a partner-first model. The Plastics & Human Health team is working to establish the casual link between plastics and negative human health and a pathway to safe and sustainable alternatives by 2030. By generating irrefutable evidence of the harm caused by plastics, both micro and nanoplastics and hazardous chemicals, the team aims to influence public interest, drive new policies, and change the behaviour of businesses and finance sectors. This Mission is delivering a multi-pronged program with five pillars: evidence synthesis and publication, clinical research and hybrid epidemiology, measurement science, evidence broadcasting, and sustainable materials. The team aims to influence public interest, drive new policies, and change the behaviour of businesses and finance sectors. Job Description About the Opportunity We are seeking an Analyst, Epidemiology and Modelling to join our Plastics and Human Health team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. In this role, you’ll support the Senior Advisor, Epidemiology in advancing groundbreaking research that uses hybrid epidemiology to uncover how plastic-associated chemicals affect human health. You will play a key role in the review, analysis, and interpretation of epidemiological data, contributing to cutting-edge investigations and peer-reviewed publications. Your work will involve developing and implementing data analytics tools, automating analytical processes, and applying a variety of quantitative methods—all underpinned by strong data science principles. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to research with real-world impact, helping to illuminate the hidden effects of plastic exposure on human wellbeing. Qualifications About You You are an analytical thinker with expertise in epidemiology, public health, or data science, and a passion for applying research to improve human health. You thrive in collaborative research environments and enjoy turning complex datasets into meaningful insights. You will ideally have: A Master’s or PhD in epidemiology, public health, computer science, or a closely related discipline. Proven skills in quantitative epidemiology and statistical analysis, including methods such as statistical influence network analysis, spatiotemporal Bayesian inference, predictive analytics, and statistical modelling. Strong proficiency in data management and analysis using R (including R Shiny) and/or Python, and experience with tools such as SAS or Stata. Familiarity with high-performance computing environments. Experience applying both quantitative and qualitative epidemiological methods. Knowledge of data privacy regulations and experience working with sensitive datasets. Excellent communication skills—written, verbal, and visual—with a track record of presenting and reporting complex epidemiological findings. A strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
