POSITION OVERVIEW:

McKinney Specialty Labs is looking for a Metals Analyst I who will be responsible for performing tasks required to meet the expectations of our clients, in addition to efficiently and profitably generating defensible data in a timely manner. These tasks will be performed under the direction of a Group Leader.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • BA / BS Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, related field, or equivalent training
  • Minimum 1 year of ICP experience
  • Strong instrument maintenance and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience with MassHunter
  • With minimum supervision, they must be able to routinely meet QA/QC requirements for the assays they perform.
  • Must be able to describe the operation of the instrument or the chemistry involved in the assays they perform.
  • Knowledge of analytical methods, analytical instruments, general lab practices and lab safety
  • Good organization and communication skills
  • Must be flexible in work schedule (including Saturday) and able to work overtime

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Experience with Empower, ChemStation or Chromeleon software
  • Knowledge of ISO17025
  • Documentation, timeliness, and throughput that meet the standard of the laboratory

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Preparation of tobacco, cigar(ette), eliquid, or aerosol samples for analysis
  • Preparation of reagents for lab use and/or shipment
  • Preparation of data summaries for inclusion in client reports.
  • Maintaining clean laboratory areas
  • Instrument calibration and validation
  • Instrument maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Maintaining organized records of sample preparation and analysis, equipment maintenance and data collected off site
  • Maintain consumables and parts for instruments
  • Overhead projects designed to improve efficiency of, or accuracy of analyses
  • Communicating relevant updates to applicable people in a timely manner
  • Ability to work on multiple batches with only minimal instruction from their supervisor
  • Performing other duties and responsibilities as prescribed by the Group Leader
  • Compliance with McKinney Specialty Labs Quality Assurance Program and other policies
  • Compliance with McKinney Specialty Labs Health and Safety Plan
  • Comfortable working with chemicals, glassware, and tobacco/nicotine products
  • Ability to remain flexible and handle changing priorities
  • Position requires attention to detail, ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and a desire to worth both as part of a team and independently
