Description
This is an opportunity to join Ethos Specialty, a Bishop Street Underwriters Company Ethos Specialty Insurance Services is a specialty Managing General Underwriter (MGU) that partners with carriers to underwrite tailored insurance programs across North America. Ethos benefits from deep capabilities and underwriting expertise and is able to match risk to multiple sources of capital as well providing the highest quality, independent underwriting service to its industry partners and capital providers. Ethos currently has three programs under the M&A insurance space.   The Tax Underwriting Team – What do we do? Corporate taxpayers in North America are generally required to take positions on certain tax issues they encounter during the course of their business based on their understanding of the facts and law. This could be in the context of a transaction such as a merger or acquisition being undertaken, tax credits being generated or utilized, or upon an internal review and as part of the taxpayer's risk mitigation strategy. The taxing authorities in the relevant jurisdiction may agree or disagree with the position the taxpayer has taken. If the taxing authority disagrees with a certain tax position, the taxpayer could be assessed for additional taxes, interest and penalties as a result.  The Ethos Tax underwriting team, upon completion of an in-depth underwriting process, provides tax liability insurance to mitigate the risk of an adverse determination by the taxing authority. Amongst other benefits, tax liability insurance simplifies otherwise complex negotiations during a transaction by ringfencing certain tax issues and more or less allows a taxpayer to transfer a potential tax liability off its balance sheet.   Job Purpose: The Analyst will join Ethos and will be primarily responsible for assisting the Tax Team/underwriters in coordinating the underwriting process and assisting in providing client solutions.
