Description

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Master’s or PhD in electrical engineering.
  • Required Knowledge: Strong understanding of the integration of IBRs into power grids and the associated controls required to interface various energy resources to the power system. Experience in testing low or medium voltage electrical equipment for grid applications (inverters, generators, etc.). Experience with power-in-the-loop (PHIL) hardware simulations and basic understanding of power amplifier operation. It is essential that the candidate has a good grasp of simulation and modeling concepts. Knowledge of modeling of energy resources such as solar photovoltaic panels, batteries, wind turbines. Good experience with simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Required skills: Autonomy, attention to detail, versatility, resourcefulness, analytical skills, curiosity, adaptability, good interpersonal skills, rigor and determination.
  • Language skills: French required. Good English skills for reading specialized/scientific books not available in French;
  • Important Assets: Experience in control and/or model development on FPGAs/DSPs, including using Xilinx System Generator (XSG) or similar tools. Knowledge of standards governing the integration of renewables into power systems (IEEE P2800, 1547, etc.) and microgrids (IEEE 2030.7, 2030.8, etc.). Experience with OPAL-RT simulation software (eMEGAsim, RT-Events, eHS, RT-XSG, HYPERSIM), or other real-time simulation tools. Understanding of the basic principles of energy management or power management systems in distribution systems, microgrids, renewable energy farms. Member of the OIQ.
  • Experience: Masters: 4+ years or Ph.D.: 0-2 years. 3+ years in advanced EMT modeling and simulation of renewable energy systems, including grid-connected control inverters or island energy systems.
