We’re seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Analytical Chemist to support metals analysis in our environmental laboratory located in Reading, PA. In this role, you will analyze environmental samples for trace metals using advanced analytical instrumentation while supporting method development, data validation, and regulatory compliance testing. This is an excellent opportunity for a chemist who enjoys hands-on instrument work, high sample throughput environments, and producing accurate, defensible analytical data that supports environmental protection and regulatory decision-making. What You’ll Do Analyze environmental and quality control samples for trace metals using ICP-OES and/or ICP-MS instrumentation Prepare and digest samples using approved laboratory methods and procedures Operate, calibrate, and maintain analytical instruments to ensure accurate and reliable performance Review, validate, and document analytical data in LIMS while maintaining traceability and compliance Perform routine quality control checks to verify data accuracy and instrument performance Assist with method development, validation, and troubleshooting of analytical techniques Support laboratory QA/QC programs, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation in accordance with SOPs and regulatory requirements Collaborate with laboratory staff to ensure sample turnaround times and productivity targets are met Perform other duties as assigned Requirements What You'll Bring Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Science, or a related field Minimum of two (2) years of hands-on analytical laboratory experience, including sample digestion and preparation for trace metals analysis Familiarity with EPA metals methods (200 series) and/or environmental metals testing Experience with ICP, ICP-OES, and/or ICP-MS Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook) and LIMS systems Proven experience working in a regulated laboratory environment with strict adherence to SOPs, QA/QC protocols, and compliance-driven procedures What You'll Need To Succeed Strong foundation in analytical chemistry, with the ability to accurately prepare, process, and analyze environmental and QC samples using approved methods High attention to detail and data integrity, ensuring results are accurate, traceable, and properly documented in LIMS Ability to manage high sample volumes while maintaining precision and meeting turnaround time requirements Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to identify instrument drift, method issues, or sample anomalies and implement corrective actions Organized, process-driven work habits with clear documentation and adherence to SOPs and chain-of-custody practices Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a laboratory team Strong aptitude for learning new analytical methods, instrumentation, and laboratory systems Commitment to laboratory safety, regulatory compliance, and proper chemical handling practices Your Schedule and The Fine Print Full-time, on-site position Monday - Friday schedule from 9 AM to 5:30 PM Ability to work outside of scheduled hours, including evenings or weekends, as required to meet operational or workload needs Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion At SPL, we believe that a diverse team is a strong team.
