We are currently seeking a skilled and detail-oriented person to join our Research & Development team as an Analytical Chemist in our Evansville, IN research facility. The main purpose of this position is to analyze, maintain, and/or improve coatings for automotive and non-automotive applications. This includes but is not limited to primers, basecoats, topcoats, and clearcoats.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a related science discipline.
  • 0 - 7+ years prior coatings development experience.
  • Ability to problem solve on coatings projects and issues, testing procedures, and instrument management, as well as adequately communicate status with supervisors.
  • Ability to pass Ishihara Test for Color Deficiency.
  • Ability to use advanced instrument software functionality.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English fluently and/or bilingual.
  • Relevant instrument proficiency and maintenance knowledge preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with analytical instrument operation (i.e. microscopes) and/or maintenance.
  • Ability to concentrate on details and work independently.
  • Ability to learn and apply technical concepts quickly.
  • Knowledge/understanding of general chemical principles/properties.
  • Ability to apply basic statistical techniques.
  • Excellent computer skills – MS Word, Excel
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; capable of relating to individuals at all levels of the organization and externally with customers.
  • Effective oral/written communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner.
  • Ability to adhere to all company policies, including safety/environmental procedures and policies.

Responsibilities
  • Perform laboratory testing with high data integrity – to identify and correct technical product and customer issues; conduct necessary testing; evaluates/interprets results, writes clear and concise reports for distribution.
  • Maintain laboratory data systems – to continuously improve on the sort, set in order, standardize, and sustain to all data generated and the connected systems.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment – to be able to independently operate all equipment and its routine repair and maintenance as well as the research to replace said equipment.
  • Capable and flexible, adaptive critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Familiarity with microscope operation and maintenance.
  • Serves as scientific resource to other Red Spot departments – including but not limited to: Paint Production, Technical Sales/Service to ensure manufacture of quality products.
