JOB DESCRIPTION:

Spectrix Analytical Services is seeking a full-time permanent Analytical Scientist to support the Protein Mass Spectrometry group within the Structural Analytical & Molecular Sciences (SAMS) department at our client site in Groton, CT. This job function provides analytical support for open access (OA) protein LC-MS system and conducting analytical determinations of target plus ligand (“Native MS”) measurements. These are done both in mechanistic and throughputted fashion to support SAMS’s mass-spec based hit identification and characterization efforts. The position also offers exposure to small molecule LC-MS and emerging mass spectrometry technologies, contributing to cutting-edge structural biology, biophysics, and drug discovery efforts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, or related field.
  • Familiarity with separation science and LC/MS instrumentation.
  • Quick adaptability to new equipment, software, and workflows.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Effective communication in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to producing quality results.
  • Preferred: Experience with HPLC, mass spectrometry, and sample prep for large/small molecules.
  • Preferred: Demonstrated academic excellence or lab performance.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate directly with client scientists on daily analytical tasks.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot protein OA-MS instrumentation.
  • Prepare samples and assist with LC-MS analysis.
  • Support experimental runs and data acquisition.
  • Process data using vendor and customer in-house software.
  • Document results in customer’s electronic lab notebook and assist with data archiving.
  • Maintain onsite presence for 40 hours per week, with availability during core business hours (9 AM – 3 PM).
