Description Job Summary: Provides Anesthesia and Orderly duties in the OR areas. Supervisor: Director of Nursing Duties Include but are not limited to: The Anesthesia Technician will facilitate a smooth transition between surgical procedures and provide nursing support as directed in the OR and PACU and assist the nursing staff in the maintenance of a clean environment. Maintain cleanliness in equipment room and treatment rooms to include; cleaning and emptying Neptune and suction containers between cases, clean OR rooms between cases as directed by nursing staff, clean equipment and positioning-aids after surgery and return to equipment room Assist as follows; with patient transport and lifting as required, in patient positioning prior to surgery, nurses with pre-surgery prep procedures and holding extremities, Ortho-Tech with holding extremities for casting and splints, physicians and nurses with pre-surgery draping and tourniquet Make up OR table at the start of each day and between cases Environmental cleaning in the OR, between cases and terminal cleaning at the end of the day according to sanitation policy Set up OR table with different equipment and positioning aids (Beach-Chair/Wilson Frame/Fracture Table) Manage hazardous waste Prepare Biohazard waste for pick-up and keep room clean Remove soiled linen from the OR Remove garbage from the OR to place in outside dumpster as needed Maintain stock of unsterile supplies¬ Stock blanket warmers in OR and PACU Maintain stock of unsterile gloves, trash bags, disinfectant wipes, and unsterile towels Distribute linen to required locations in the OR Maintain sterile field when assisting in the OR Assist in sterile processing room by folding towels and other duties as directed by sterile processing tech Log monthly QA’s regarding humidity and temperature in OR rooms as well as graft freezer Assists the anesthesia care provider with Intubation/Extubating, blocks, invasive lines and Peripheral IVs Demonstrates detailed technical knowledge and troubleshooting ability for anesthesia delivery system, scavenger system, gas analyzer, EKG and pulse oximeters and rapid infusion devices Prepares and assembles the necessary equipment of intravenous/invasive lines as requested Recognizes and adheres to aseptic techniques and universal precautions in all clinical activities Other duties as needed and directed by Supervisor or OR Supervising Nurse Requirements Requirements: High School diploma or equivalent preferred. Must have current Basic Life Support certification (BLS). Prior experience in a surgical environment preferred. Must be familiar with medical terminology. Previous operating and anesthesia assistant experience preferred. Previous experience in maintenance of anesthesia supplies and equipment. Knowledge of sterile technique and invasive lines preferred. Clinical knowledge in a medical specialization and knowledge of patient care. Extensive dexterity skills needed for patient treatment. Communication and organizational skills. Ability to respond with flexibility to changing workload. Ability to work well with physicians, providers, employees, patients, and other members. Other duties as assigned as necessary and may vary at times, as needed, by the Director of Nursing or appropriate nursing staff. Requires prolonged standing, stretching, and bending and lifting a minimum of 50 lbs. may be required. Fast-paced work environment.
