POSITION SUMMARY

The Animal and Laboratory Research Technologist will be responsible for assisting and supporting the Principal Investigator in research projects focused on reproductive health sciences, including in vivo murine models and molecular analysis of cells and tissues. The research technician will be responsible for maintaining and breeding rodents, administering treatments, performing necropsies and the appropriate collection of samples while ensuring all protocols are followed, maintaining the data associated with the samples, and performing statistical analyses. The Research Technologist will also perform administrative tasks associated with lab management, biosafety, record keeping, and supply ordering. He or she will also liaise with other laboratory staff, providing training to undergraduate, graduate and PDF trainees in animal or human experimental procedures and analyses.

QUALIFICATIONS

• A Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field; a Master’s degree in an appropriate field is highly preferred.
• Above average academic performance will be beneficial.
• Three to five years of lab research and pregnant animal handling experience, including timed-pregnant animal breeding, simple surgical procedures, and necropsies.
• Demonstrated experience with qPCR, western immunoblotting, ELISA assays and Bioplex/Multiplex operation.
• Demonstrated experience teaching the Scientific Method, laboratory techniques and laboratory protocols to undergraduate or graduate students and fellows.
• Experience with operating university systems is an asset (ARISE, SupplyNet, Chematix, etc).

• Animal Research and laboratory Work (50%) – Independently design and implement in vivo animal experiments aligned with research goals, funding milestones, and approved protocols. Monitor compliance with ethical standards and ensure all protocols are up to date.
• Preclinical research Support and Commercialization (15%) – Lead the development, review and implementation of standard operating procedures for new and existing workflows. Conduct comparative evaluations of vendors and service providers.
• Data Management (10%) – Maintain and analyze physical/digital records for experimental data, sample tracking and protocol changes. Contribute to manuscript preparation and revisions.
• Lab Administration and Safety Oversight (10%) – Manage Lab ordering, ensure compliance to WHMIS, biosafety regulations, and emergency preparedness.
• Training and Supervision (10%) – Ensure compliance with biosafety, animal ethics and research integrity standards – Train and mentor undergrad students, grad students and visiting researchers.
• Project Leadership and Grant Support (5%) – Monitor project progress and address experimental delays.
