About the Role We are currently looking for an Animal Care Supervisor to fill a vacancy and join our Guelph Housing Team. Reporting to the Manager, Animal Care this role provides leadership to the afternoon housing team and works collaboratively with the day shift supervisors and Manager, Animal Care with an objective of maximizing production, semen quality and animal health care. What You Will Do: People Management * Provide daily supervision and direction to the Animal Care Specialists; encourage teamwork and cross-training * Completes entry of staff time and attendance into the company’s payroll system * Develop, maintain, and communicate Animal Care Specialist work schedules * Participates in investigation of health and safety incidents, bull accidents or incidents and participate in JHSC monthly inspections * Utilize approved Performance Management systems for timely staff reviews; providing fair and timely formal and informal feedback; emphasize employee strengths, clarify performance expectations, and provide opportunities for growth and development * Ensure compliance with all health and safety protocols, agricultural and environmental regulatory standards and recognized animal welfare and transport protocols Animal Care * Ensure and participate as needed in all key sire care tasks, such as, bedding, bull comfort, health/daily observation etc., are completed at the highest level of proficiency. * Support inventory to ensure sufficient availability of all key supplies, communicates ordering requirements to the day shift supervisors. * Work closely with the corporate veterinarian, day shift supervisors and Manager, Animal care on bull health and welfare requirements.. * Participate with Manager, Animal Care - Guelph in development, training, measurement of departmental KPI’s * Oversee Bull housing facility management; ensures facilities and equipment are maintained to appropriate standards Semen Collection * Support in all aspects of collection activities, ensuring compliance with Semex SOP * Provide input into development and adherence to of semen collection KPI’s * Evaluate semen production capacity for the afternoon shift and addresses limitations and/or bottlenecks * Evaluate team semen production results, identifies problems, implements corrective actions within scope and reports recommendations or issues to the Manager, Animal Care when corrective action is outside of scope  What You Need to Succeed: * Diploma or degree in Animal Agriculture or Animal Health * Valid Driver’s License * 3-4 years of animal health /herd management  * 2-3 years of progressive employee management experience * Agricultural/Farm experience with prior experience working with large animals * Comfort and understanding with tools and software such as AX, Sharepoint and ADP Why Join Semex: Health & Wellness * Company paid comprehensive benefits program: Including extended health and dental care for employees and eligible dependents * Short and long-term disability coverage * Employee & Family Assistance Program  Financial Security * Defined Contribution Pension Plan with employer matching * Competitive salary, merit pay and annual performance bonus Work-Life Balance * Paid time off: Vacation, Personal and Sick time * Employee Recognition Program  Growth & Culture * Learning and development opportunities  * Social committee events  * Annual allowance for Semex Shop to purchase Semex / Boviteq branded clothing and merchandise  Work Location & Minimum Pay Rate This is an in-person role requiring 5 days per week in our Guelph location. Working a standard 40 hour work week, working a standard 40 hour work week, from 2:30 - 11:00 p.m. please note, particiaption in weekend rotation is a requirement for this role.
