JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced Animal Care Technician I to join our Insourcing Solutions team, located in Boston, MA.
As the Animal Care Technician I, you will review, observe, monitor and document the health and physical environment within the client’s animal facility. Perform animal care and husbandry, including receiving, cage wash duties and sanitation.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Perform animal husbandry duties to maintain quality and health of research animals, which includes, but not limited to: daily water bottle/automatic water line and cage checks; provide appropriate food and water; perform cage changing and/or cage cleaning as required; record animal health concerns per SOP and/or specified protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records of animal breeding, health, and housing/isolator or support areas as required by the Institute and facility.
  • Assist with restraint, handling and manipulation of various animal species as assigned by the on-site supervisor or facility veterinarian.
  • Use applicable software for the tracking of animals including census and generation of cage cards.
  • Perform daily cage wash duties and sanitation. Follows sanitization schedules within vivarium.
  • Provide basic start up and shut down procedures on equipment (cage washer, autoclave, water production)
  • Perform quality assurance measures (temperature temps, watering testing, BIs, RODAC and/or ATP monitoring) and maintain such records.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

To qualify for this role, candidates must have one of the following combinations of education/experience:
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in animal or life sciences field, no experience required with the Bachelors Degree
OR
Associate Degree in animal or life sciences field and 6 months experience with research animal care and husbandry
OR
High school diploma, General Education Degree (G.E.D.) or equivalent required and 1 year of experience with research animal care and husbandry preferred

Certification/Licensure:

  • AALAS Certification at the ALAT level within 12 months of employment.
