For more details, review the full job details and requirements below. The Animal Control Officer is responsible for enforcing state and local animal control laws and ordinances in the City of Olathe. They ensure the health and welfare of all animals and members of the community in the course of their work. Key Responsibilities: Investigates animal related reports including complaints of animals creating nuisances, abuse, and neglect; investigates and ensures compliance of Dangerous Dog ordinance; utilizes proper handling techniques and equipment for restraint and care of animals. Investigates animal bites; coordinates and assists County Health Department with rabies control. Picks up and disposes of deceased animals; disposes of unclaimed animals as required and ensures proper maintenance of disposal equipment. Educates the public to increase pet owners’ awareness of pertinent laws and regulations. Qualifications Experience: One year of experience working with animals is required with experience working in animal control preferred. Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Licenses & Certifications: A valid driver's license with favorable driving record is required. Animal Control Officer I and II Certification will be required through the National Animal Control Association (NACA) within the first 24 months.
