Description This is a general summary of the responsibilities associated with the position of an Animal Facility Specialist I in support of the NIH, Laboratory Animal Research Contract (LARC 15). This description is not all-inclusive of the duties required to successfully complete the job daily. It is intended to reflect FEFA’s contractual obligations. Responsibilities of this position are that of an Animal Facility Specialist I. These responsibilities include all activities required for managing staff and the proper care, handling and maintenance of on-site animals, equipment, and facilities. PRIMARY DUTIES: Primary duties may include the following: Unless otherwise directed by FEFA management, your expected to perform your duties as assigned, arrive to work at 7:00am and depart at 3:30pm. (Monday through Friday). Employees are required to work on the weekends and holidays as scheduled. The weekend/holiday hours are from 7:00am-11:00am. Managers are expected to be thoroughly familiar with the day-to-day activities, personnel, and daily schedules within the facilities. FEFA expects each of our employees to be forward thinking and to create and assist in quality performance and contract requirements. The Animal Facility Specialist I will ensure the efficient and effective allocation of contract resources and maintain an effective, professional relationship with both FEFA and Government staff. The primary duties for the Animal Facility Specialist I are listed below: Provide direct management of contract staff assigned to a small animal facility. Provide implementation and oversight of staff evaluation, mentoring and correction. · Comprehend, follow, and ensure all project duties are performed in accordance with the contract statement of work, project SOP’s and NIH policies. Provide daily, weekly, and monthly reporting as directed by contract requirements. Communicate with customers in an effective and professional manner. Schedule staff for daily, weekend and holiday coverage. Ensure all technical procedures are fulfilled and are done so within protocol compliance. · Ensure facility supply inventories are procured timely and on-hand inventories are available. · Perform daily, weekly, and monthly QA/QC to ensure excellent performance. · Provide daily, weekly a formal monthly quality assurance for all areas of responsibility and report any non- compliance to the appropriate manager for immediate correction. · Provide data, information and reporting according to contract deliverable schedule. · Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned by management. Identify training topics that will benefit staff development and contract performance. Perform all other duties as assigned by FEFA Management. Requirements EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Employees’ appointed to the position of the Animal Facility Specialist I must meet the following standards prior to appointment: Education: High School Diploma required. A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field preferred and/or equivalent experience. Certification: Employees should hold a current AALAS certification at the LAT level or test for the LAT within 1 year of employment. Experience: 2 years of supervisory or management experience, knowledge of small animal husbandry and technical experience, ability to work with various software programs, and facility operations experience.
