ANIMAL SERVICES OFFICER - Health - Animal Services

JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, routinely patrol city streets to pick up stray, injured, and/or dead animals. Clean and maintain Animal Shelter daily. Collect license fees and shelter fees. Issue citations for violations of Animal Control Laws. Assist volunteers and community service workers. Must be available to work at shelter-sponsored petting zoos. Some evening, weekend, and on-call work required. Perform other related work as required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND/OR LICENSES:

Two (2) years (or 60 hours) of undergraduate college course work required from accredited college or university. Additional, relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education requirements. Texas Driver’s License, Class C, required. Texas Department of State Health Services basic Animal Control Certification required, or must obtain within 12 months of attaining position. Must complete 30 hours of continuing education every three years. Must obtain euthanasia certification within 120 days of employment in position.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:

One (1) year experience preferred in a field related to animal control or veterinarian medicine. Vehicle driving record must be satisfactory according to City of Richardson Departmental Rules and Regulations. Must be computer literate and able to use computer in performance of essential functions. Knowledge of Lotus Notes preferred. Must be able to deal with the public and fellow employees in a tactful, considerate manner. Must be concerned and interested in providing humane treatment for animals. Must be able to understand the health necessity of destroying animals and perform this function when necessary.
