POSITION REQUIREMENTS, EXPERIENCE, AND EDUCATION:

EDUCATION

BFA degree in Animation, Fine Art, or a related field OR relevant professional experience in animation.

EXPERIENCE

· Professional experience as a traditional 2D hand-drawn animator with a strong portfolio/reel demonstrating full-animation technique is required.
· Teaching experience at the post-secondary level (community college, 4-year college, or university) is preferred.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Intermediate skill level for Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
  • Intermediate skill level for Google Suite: Gmail and Calendar required.
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems, such as Moodle, Canvas, or Blackboard, as well as prior use of Google email, Google Drive, Zoom, and/or similar communication/educational platforms required.
  • Candidate’s portfolio or demo reel should clearly demonstrate mastery of traditional animation principles, expressive character performance, and refined draftsmanship.
  • Experience using key digital animation tools, specifically Toon Boom Harmony and/or TVPaint, to support traditional animation instruction is preferred.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to convey animation concepts clearly, give constructive feedback, and manage course responsibilities efficiently.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive, student-centered learning environment that supports engagement and academic success.
  • Awareness of, sensitivity to, and an understanding of a diverse community of students, faculty, and staff required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team required.
  • Must be self-motivated, focused, and proactive.
  • Excellent spelling, grammar, and editing skills required.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task and work in fast-paced, demanding environment.
  • Experience in higher education preferred.
  • Must be able to drive personal vehicle for business purposes and must pass DMV background check and have minimum insurance requirements as set by LCAD.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Deliver engaging instruction in traditional, hand-drawn animation, following the department’s established sequential curriculum.
· Provide students with constructive, timely feedback through regular critiques, supporting both technical growth and artistic development.
· Prepare and present course materials, demonstrations, and lectures that reflect current industry practices and foundational animation principles.
· Create and maintain department-compliant syllabi, attendance records, grading rubrics, and midterm/final evaluations in accordance with academic deadlines.
· Collaborate with faculty on student progress and course assessments.
· Meet with students (either in-person or online) during weekly office hours as required and according to established guidelines.
