Burlington School District is seeking an experienced and energetic EL teacher to support newly arrived English Learner/multilingual students in gaining increasing familiarity with the routines of US schools as well as critical oral language, reading and math skills through high-quality focused academic programming which is appropriate to their varying levels of proficiency in English. The design for the academic program will be that of a multi-age sheltered classroom specifically designed for students who have recently arrived in the US.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Job Requirements:

- Licensed or eligible for Vermont Educators License
- Endorsement in Multilingual Learner (40) or eligible for Vermont Provisional License.
- Documented or eligible for NCLB Highly Qualified Teacher status.
- Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Required Qualifications:
-
- Demonstrated experience in differentiating instruction and planning curriculum aligned with Common Core standards/instruction using “backwards design” and formative assessments.
- Understanding of Cultural Competency (as explained through Essay 1 on SchoolSpring).
- Knowledge of best practices regarding frameworks of student behavioral support.
Preferred Attributes:
-
- Training and/or experience with English Language Learners.
- Experience in a professional/teaching learning community; experience in co-teaching/collaborating with other educators.
- Familiarity with integrated technology as a learning tool.
- Knowledge of secondary English/EL research-based best practices, including project-based and hands-on learning
- Ongoing educational post graduate coursework in education or subject area, including diversity, equity and inclusion.
