Description:
TRAINING AND EDUCATION
- Develops processes, programs and content to provide education and training regarding accessibility to staff and faculty, ensuring that faculty and staff are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and resources to integrate accessibility into their decision-making and service delivery;
- Monitor and update AODA Training modules as needed;
- Update and develop relevant resources; and
- Supports the mandate of the Equity, Diversity and Human Rights Office in the delivery of training and education aimed at promoting an understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion within the University.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field;
- Three (3) years’ experience ideally from a similar institution (an equivalent combination of educational, professional, and lived experiences will also be considered);
- Knowledgeable of provincial accessibility legislation and campus standards;
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to interpret policies, procedures and collective agreements;
- An understanding of the impact of accessibility and disabilities in a post-secondary environment;
- Strong presentation, facilitation and interpersonal skills;
- Demonstrated experience handling contentious and confidential information with sensitivity, good judgment and discretion;
- Strong project / case management skills;
- Knowledge of assistive technologies and other technical or non-technical solutions to address accessibility barriers;
- Ability to provide solutions using imaginative approaches where constructive thinking and innovation are required;
- Strong computer skills in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office;
- High level of initiative;
- Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity; and
- Ability to work fluently (verbal and written) in both official languages, French and English, is required
The official University hours of operation shall be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, during, and including, the months from September to April, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m Monday through Friday during and including May to August., amounting to thirty-three and three-quarter (33.75) hours per week.

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director, Equity and Human Rights, and working within the Equity, Diversity and Human Rights Office, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act Coordinator (AODA Coordinator) will work to identify, remove and prevent barriers to inclusion for persons with disabilities to ensure an accessible learning and working environment for all members of the Laurentian University community. The coordinator plays a key role in enhancing accessibility throughout the University, ensuring adherence to accessibility standards and regulations, including project planning to ensure the University implements the Postsecondary Education Standards (PSE Standards) once regulated. The AODA Coordinator will coordinate and lead Laurentian’s response and compliance to the AODA, 2005 and associated Standards, including the soon to be enacted PSE Standards.
