Description The AP Chemistry Teacher is responsible for delivering rigorous, engaging instruction in Chemistry, including Advanced Placement (AP) Chemistry. The teacher will prepare students for college-level scientific study by fostering inquiry-based learning, laboratory skills, critical thinking, and mastery of chemical principles aligned with the College Board AP Chemistry framework. The ideal candidate demonstrates deep content expertise, strong classroom management skills, and a passion for preparing students for AP exam success and future studies in science, engineering, medicine, and other STEM fields. Job Responsibilities Teach College Preparatory and AP Chemistry courses. Design and implement lessons aligned with state standards and the College Board AP Chemistry Course and Exam Description (CED). Prepare students for success on the AP Chemistry exam, including free-response question (FRQ) practice, laboratory investigations, and quantitative problem-solving. Integrate inquiry-based learning, scientific modeling, and real-world applications of chemistry. Ensure students develop proficiency in chemical calculations, laboratory techniques, data analysis, and scientific reasoning. Differentiate instruction to support diverse learning styles and academic needs. Design and supervise safe, engaging, and standards-aligned laboratory experiences. Maintain laboratory equipment, materials, and chemical inventories. Ensure compliance with all laboratory safety regulations and proper chemical storage, handling, and disposal procedures. Teach proper laboratory documentation, scientific reporting, and experimental design. Foster a culture of safety and responsibility in all laboratory settings. Develop formative and summative assessments aligned with AP Chemistry learning objectives and standards. Analyze student performance data to inform instructional decisions and interventions. Provide timely, meaningful, and constructive feedback to students. Maintain accurate grade records, assessment documentation, and student progress reports. Provide academic support through tutoring, office hours, and enrichment opportunities. Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and achievement. Write letters of recommendation and provide academic guidance as requested. Support student participation in science fairs, academic competitions, STEM programs, and chemistry-related enrichment activities. Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school-sponsored activities. Collaborate with science department faculty to ensure curriculum alignment and continuous program improvement. Stay current with AP Chemistry curriculum updates, scientific advancements, and best practices in science education. Attend College Board AP training and professional learning opportunities, if not already AP-certified. Contribute positively to the school community and uphold the mission and values of the institution. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Science Education, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred. Valid teaching certification, if required by state regulations. Experience teaching high school Chemistry required. Experience teaching AP Chemistry strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to conduct laboratory-based instruction safely and effectively. Strong organizational, communication, and classroom management skills.
