JOB SUMMARY:
The API inspector supports mechanical Integrity compliance by performing various types of NDE inspections on fixed equipment and piping in a chemical plant. The position will require self-directed initiative working with API qualified contractors through day-to-day scheduled jobs, work orders, strategic planning, and administrative tasks. This role will also be expected to perform day-to-day scheduled inspections, not just delegate work. Responsible for site-required API inspection of equipment and piping, including managing & changing inspection frequencies based on current inspection results. Provide field-level support for reliability efforts, innovation, and continuous improvement. Also, this position creates repair plans/recommendations and maintains inspection records via SAP or other database systems, as necessary.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum three years of experience in inspection and repair of stationary equipment and piping in the chemical, oil and gas, and/or food and beverage industries.
- Must have and maintain the American Petroleum Institute certifications (API) in 510/570/653 or in progress of obtaining one. Must be able to provide valid certifications prior to employment or proof of current progress working towards certification.
- Self-directed drive assisting supporting the day-to-day operations for 1-5 employees.
Preferred:
- Certified weld instructor (CWI) certification is a plus.
- Large chemical plant manufacturing environment with experience in PSM and GMP requirements.
- Experience in using scissor lift, JLG, and other similar equipment for inspection needs.
- Preventative / predictive maintenance knowledge of chemical equipment & piping.
- Associate degree or experience in mechanical engineering & technology, two years’ experience in construction, repair, inspection of stationary equipment and piping.
- Five to seven Yrs experience in API in 510/570/653.
- CMMS experience, preferably SAP

- Must have a broad knowledge base relating to maintenance, inspection, repair, and alteration of pressure vessels.

- SAP, and Microsoft office experience preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively with facts and figures along with the ability to influence, persuade and negotiate. Strong interpersonal and communications skills
- Work collaboratively with multiple diverse stakeholders, including Production, Engineering, Maintenance, Procurement, Stores, Accounting, Project Engineers, Engineering Managers, Site Leadership Team, Manufacturing Support Services, etc. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Be able to lift 60 lbs., walk, sit, squat, bend, push/pull with arms/legs, body, reach overhead, stoop.
- Be able to climb into confined spaces, high platforms, tight areas for required inspections.
- Available for flexible hours and overtime as required to support Maintenance activities including shutdown both planned and un-planned.
- The process problems include dealing with the technical difficulties of corrosive and hazardous chemicals and operating temperatures up to 2400°F.
