WE ARE HIRING AN APPLICATION DESIGNER FOR A KEY FEDERAL GOVERNMENT PROJECT THAT PROMISES BOTH CHALLENGE AND IMPACT.

Job Type: 6-month initial engagement, with possible extension until 30 June 2026

Locations: Canberra / Brisbane

  • Flexible hybrid work arrangements are offered.

This role is open to Australian citizens holding a Baseline security clearance.
Job Summary: The Application Designer contributes to the design of large, complex corporate systems that facilitate the achievement of the Department’s core business through the use of process and technology. Working with the role supervisor, the role contributes to planning, system documentation and reporting as required. This role will share in end-to-end application design through discovery, framing and iterative development and collaborate closely with a team of other Designers, Engineers, Application Manager and other subject matter experts.

You will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Contribute technical knowledge and/or expertise to various stages of the application design process to ensure compliance with design standards and achievement of documented requirements.
  • Translate user requests into design specifications to ensure the solution is both fit for purpose and fit for use.
  • Maintain a user-centred approach in design perspective and practice and support end-to-end application design through discovery, framing and iterative development and delivery
  • Undertake user testing and gather feedback to improve the quality of outputs and reduce operational risks; undertake design walkthroughs and manage usability testing
  • Participate in implementation planning to task level, assisting with implementation and providing design support throughout the implementation period
  • Provide ongoing technical support and problem resolution to minimise the impact of service outages; analyse and resolve problems, and where necessary, escalate issues for follow-through with external service providers; monitor recurring problems to identify and resolve trends
  • Provide timely advice and support to the role supervisor to ensure seamless service delivery, reliability and optimal effectiveness of programs and systems; contribute to the preparation of operational and progress reports to the role supervisor
  • Stay up to date on the current and best UI and visual design practices and trends

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrated experience in conducting formal usability testing and supporting user acceptance testing.
  • A digital portfolio demonstrating a variety of user-centric UI design solutions that deliver strategic outcomes and business objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly design and iterate on prototypes.
