Description
Te Tūranga | About the role: Working as part of our Technology and Transformation function, this Application Developer role sits within our Business Applications team, focusing on the development and support of operational, business‑critical systems. Our Business Applications enable Silver Fern Farms’ manufacturing plants to operate every day. Systems such as our Carcase Recording System (CRS) and Trade applications are core Systems of Record, and your work ensures they remain reliable, performant, and fit for purpose. When these systems work well, the impact is visible and tangible across our operations. You’ll design, develop, enhance, and support applications built on modern Microsoft technologies, working across the full SDLC in close collaboration with operational stakeholders, vendors, and other technology teams. Based in our Dunedin office, the team typically works three days in the office and two from home, with some flexibility to support work-life balance. This role is available on a 2-year fixed term basis, while we work through a period of heightened development resourcing needs.   Ōu Pūkenga | About You: The most important part of this role is how you work. You’re a pragmatic, delivery-focused developer who understands that reliable, well‑supported systems are essential to keeping the business running. You take ownership, communicate clearly, and enjoy working closely with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders. You’ll bring a strong foundation in modern application development, alongside the discipline required to support Systems of Record in an operational environment. To be successful, you’ll have: * 4+ years’ experience in application development  * A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g., Computer Science, Information Technology)  * Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including strong programmability skills in T-SQL development, database object management, and data integration, along with database administration (DBA) capabilities.  * Experience designing, developing, and maintaining applications using .NET, C#, Visual Studio, and exposure to Azure  * Experience working across the SDLC, including support, maintenance, testing, and continuous improvement  * A strong sense of accountability for application reliability, stability, and support outcomes   Key attributes we’re looking for: * Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills * A practical, operational mindset with attention to detail * Ability to balance BAU support with project delivery * Collaborative approach and confidence engaging with a wide range of stakeholders * A desire to continuously learn and contribute to modernisation efforts   Te Ahurea | Why work at Silver Fern Farms?
