Role Overview: The Application Engineer is responsible for developing and maintaining applications software. This role involves understanding the requirements for a feature of the application or platform and deliver the solution to fulfil those requirements. The Application Engineer role is responsible for the core coded business logic for the developed application or platform. They should be familiar with solution best practices and design patterns used in the application and strive to deliver solutions that are maintainable and of a high quality. Role Responsibilities: The Application Engineer is responsible for (but not limited to): Working within the relevant domain team to ensure solutions achieve intended business requirements, adhering to standard processes and procedures to provide certainty of outcome. Contributing to product development activities, including planning, estimating, tracking progress, and reporting on delivery. Designing, coding/configuring, testing and installing application changes across one or more platforms, delivering maintainable, high-quality outcomes. Maintaining and supporting applications, including analysis and rectification of system problems, and implementing fixes and enhancements. Installing, testing and maintaining new or modified application and system software in line with agreed practices and change controls. Producing and maintaining technical documentation and procedures for installation, operation and ongoing maintenance (e.g., runbooks, support guides, and release documentation). Participating in the Application Engineering community, contributing to reusable patterns, shared components, and process best practices. Responsible for implementing a principle driven health and safety culture that cares for employees and ensures their safety in line with Datacom policy. Working within Tier 2 Service Provider Demonstrated understanding for IT Product Development. Skills in one or more of the major programming languages (either 'legacy' or 'hot') such as Cobol, C++, Visual Basic, Java, XML, ASP, COM/DCOM and/or SQL development tools. Skills and knowledge of one of the major relational database packages such as Oracle, SQL Server, Access, Sybase or DB2. Establishes and assures adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans, and performance requirements Ability to work in large, collaborative teams to achieve organisational goals Good skills in time management. Good analytical and problem-solving skills. Good stakeholder and customer relationship building skills. Good presentation skills.
